The Pisa meeting followed a bad year with the collapse of plans to hold a meeting in Southern Ireland.
The attendance at the meeting was disappointing, especially given the superb lecture facilities and the wonderful town of Pisa.
The lectures were held in the nearby National Research Centre.
Nigel and Geoff had previously travelled out to Pisa to finalise the program, on which occasion our organiser Francesco Giunta took us to a superb restaurant near the town walls. The same restaurant hosted the annual dinner which was a memorable five course fish meal. I am no fish eater but this was superb.
Quite apart from this of course there was the tower. An awesome sight, it really does lean. What is more it is leaning towards the hospital which is immediately to the south.
It was perhaps by coincidence that two of our speakers are from the same institution as the man who devised and implemented the plan that has successfully halted the continuing lean of the tower and returned it to a safe condition.
